Summary of December Board Meeting


  • A New Year’s Eve outreach event will be held on December 31, 2013. The committee members are Jason Kwok, Joanna Lai, Felix Loo, Grace Ng, Kenald Yu and Polly Yu. 
  • As of January 2014, prayer meeting of the Chinese congregation will be held in the afternoon of the last Sunday of the month and the Christian Education courses will be offered after the Sunday service. 
  • The church will discontinue preparing the pre-printed offering envelopes in 2014. For special need, please contact the church secretary. 
  • For privacy and security reasons, the church will discontinue the printing of the directory effective 2014. 
  • Samson Chan will replace Godfrey Leung as one of the coordinators of the Christmas dinner on December 15 because Godfrey needs to attend to family matters. 
  • The board proposed the amendment of bylaw 7.15 as follow: 
    • The Council shall annually report on its stewardship of the affairs of the Church through an annual report that shall also contain an audited a financial statement and balance sheet. A review engagement will be performed on the financial statement and balance sheet at a minimum of every 3 years and at the discretion of the board. 
  • Florence Wong has been reactivated as a church member.

  • Church prayer meetings are held every Sunday at 10:30am in Room G. All are encouraged and welcome to attend. 
  • Anyone who has been baptized and wants to grow further in their Christian walk with the Lord, please join us at English 201 which will be starting soon. For further details please contact Pastor Gladys. 
  • There were 78 members attended deacon election last Sunday. Result of the election is as follow: Keddy Au Yeung for election as a new deacon: 76 in support; 2 abstained; 0 against. 
  • Christmas Charity Dinner will be held on December 15. Tickets will be selling at adult $12, age 4-10 children $6, age 3 and below is free. Funds raised including offering collected at the tables will be donated to Food Bank and Union Gospel Mission. Tickets are now available with small group leaders or Deacon Justin Chen. Today is the last day for registration. 
  • DONATIONS WANTED! Gifts to be sold at the Christmas Charity Auction are now being collected. We are accepting: new items of value; unique and valuable vintage items; and unused and non-expired gift certificates, gift cards, or gift vouchers (e.g. Groupons). Items should be new or in excellent condition. Contact Pastor Alan for details. Please note that the Church reserves the right to refuse any donations, and unsold gifts will be returned to donors. Thank you for your support! 
  • WBC is hosting a charity clothing drive from today to December 15. Details have been posted on the bulletin board and the church website. Net proceeds will be donated to the Vancouver Food Bank and Union Gospel Mission. Please bring your clothing donations to Room G. 
  • AWANA & CitRUS presents Joy, Joy, Joy – A Family Christmas Event on December 24 from 5:00pm – 6:00pm. There will be Drama, Games, Music and more! Free Admission, register online: tinyurl.com/xmasfx13 or sign up on the bulletin board. 
  • A New Year Eve fun filled outreach event will be held on December 31 at 9:30pm. All are welcome to join. Tickets will be available in coming weeks at $5 each. For more details, please contact Pastor Gladys.

  • Thank you all for supporting Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) in the relief of the Philippines Typhoon. We have raised $1,805 in the past two weeks for this cause.

  • Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) encourages donation in the relief of the Philippines Typhoon. Today is the last day the church will collect a special offering for this cause. Donations will send to CBM. Please make cheques payable to “Westside Baptist Church” and mark “Philippines Typhoon” on the offering envelope. Donation receipts will be issued for an amount of $20 or more.
  • Representatives from City of Vancouver will come to the church on November 27 at 7pm to give a talk on the development of Marpole community and the Cambie corridor. Brothers and sisters are welcomed to join.

Summary of November Deacon Board Meeting

  • GZone parents meeting will be held right after English worship service on December 8. Light lunch will be served and $5 per person.
  • Representatives from City of Vancouver will come to the church on November 27 at 7pm to give a talk on the development of Marpole community and the Cambie corridor. Brothers and sisters are welcomed to join.
  • The board recommended to pass the following motion during Annual General Meeting on January 26, 2014, “Westside Baptist Church wishes that Alan Yu be credentialed as an Accredited Minister and therefore formally request that the CBWC Ordination Examining Council examine him in order that our church may proceed with the ordination of Alan Yu." The board also nominated an assessment committee, consisting of three deacons (Felix, Justin & Godfrey) and three congregational members (Ealse Wong, Joyce Lai & Jason Lam) for the interview of Pastor Alan Yu and the completion of the related documentation.
  • The board has proposed the following change of the bylaw 4.9.1:
    • Amending the Constitution or calling or dismissing a Pastor or Associate Pastor licensed pastor (excluding contractual staff) when 75 percent majority of those present and voting shall be required.
  • 2014 Summer Camp will be held on July 11-13, 2014 at Alexandra Neighbourhood House.
