Announcements - May 29, 2016


  • Church prayer meetings are held every Sunday at 10:30am at the office. All are encouraged and welcome to attend. 
  • Worship duties list is posted on the church website. Please contact Deacon Peter, Deacon Justin or the church secretary if you are not available for the duties. Please do not make changes on your own. 
  • Try to use offering envelopes for your tithe and offering. If you have forgotten your offering number, please contact the church office. For those who are new to Westside and if you have not filled out a guest record form, please get one from our ushers. Also contact Pastor Gladys or one of our SG leaders if you want to know more about us or join our small groups. 
  • We have uploaded all 6 of the prayer walking guides to the church website and encourage you to continue prayer walking in our neighborhood by using these guides. Make it a habit that you do regularly or may encourage your small group to go together, especially when the weather is nice. 
  • In order to understand our community better for planning the upcoming ministries, we have prepared demographic survey to be done in our neighborhood. Please contact Pastor Anders if you are available to do the survey in the neighborhood. 
  • A parents’ outreach dinner will be held on June 19, 2016 at 6:00pm. The cost is $20 per adult. $10 per ages 4-10 child. Tickets booth has been set up today and will be set up again on June 5 between 11:15am – 11:45am at the main entrance. Please prepare cash or cheque if you would like to purchase the ticket. Due to limited seating capacity, nonbeliever parents and their family will have the priority to buy the tickets. 
  • The Children Summer Camp is open for registration now. The event is from July 4 to August 26. Please check the church website and bulletin board for more details. 
  • The church is now hiring TWO Children Summer Program Assistants. Please refer to the bulletin board or the website for more detail. Application deadline is May 31, 2016. 
  • We are planning to re-start Homework Fellowship. Anyone interested to serve in this ministry please contact Pastor Gladys or Deacon Justin.

Announcements - May 15, 2016


  • The church is going to collect special offering today during worship services. Please make cheque payable to “Westside Baptist Church” and specify on the offering envelope “Fire relief”. All fund received will be sent to CBWC for this cause. Donation receipt will be issued for donation of $20 or above. The church had already donated $1,000 for this cause. 
  • Pastor Gladys is taking her vacation from May 4 to 22. The guest speaker guest speaker for today is Pastor Lawrence Cheung, Chaplain at St. Paul’s Hospital. 
  • In order to understand our community better for planning the upcoming ministries, we have prepared demographic survey to be done in our neighborhood. Please contact Pastor Alan if you are available to do the survey in the neighborhood.
  • The monthly bulletin of May 2016 has been posted on the bulletin board. Please check out for important information of the church. 
  • A seminar about “Medical Assistance in Dying – What Christians need to know” will be held on today between 2pm and 4pm. The speaker is Pastor Lawrence Cheung (Chaplain at St. Paul’s Hospital). Details and sign-up sheet can be found on the bulletin board. There will be a community luncheon today right after worship service. 
  • A kids’ stuff swap meet event will be held on May 28 (Saturday) between 10am – 3pm at the church parking lot.

Summary of May 2016 Deacon Board Meeting


  • The church planned to perform a review engagement of the 2016 financial statements in May 2017. The church has hired Gigi Li as the coordinator of the Children Summer Program this year. 
  • Starting from mid-June the church will begin to launch various community activities suitable for different age group. “Running man” is a game suitable for the youth (the coordinators are Joseph Ng and Jason Kwok). Praise dance will be resumed and is suitable for adults of all ages. Informational seminars will be held regularly for mature adults (freewill offering will be collected during the seminars). 
  • The church has contacted three consulting firms about the possibility of downstairs redevelopment. There will be further discussion once we receive their proposals in June. 
  • New Societies Act will come into effect on November 28, 2016. The church will have the two years following November 28, 2016 to “transition to the new Act”.

Hiring Children Summer Program Assistant (Summer contract position)

Westside Baptist Church is hiring TWO 40 hours/week Children Summer Program Assistants. This is a July 4 to August 26, 2016 (8 weeks) contract-based position. Eligible student participants must:
  • be between 15 AND 30 YEARS OF AGE at the start of the employment; 
  • have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year; 
  • be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; 
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations; and, 
  • be able to provide a certified criminal record check.
Job Description:
  • Assisting in the operation of 8 weeks of full-day summer programs for children from preschool to grade 3, possibly with ethnic Chinese background.
Required Skills:
  • Language: fluent in spoken and written English and Cantonese; preferably also in Mandarin. 
  • Skills and experiences working with young children. 
  • Good interpersonal skills and willing to work in a team. 
  • Responsible, organized, self-motivated, willing to learn, and attention to detail.

Fort McMurray Fire Relief Fund

Westside Baptist Church will collect special offering on May 8 and 15 for immediate emergency relief and assistance in Fort McMurray through Canadian Baptist Ministry and Canadian Baptists of Western Canada.

  • Immediately after the Joint Service there will be a group photo’s time. Then we will have a potluck lunch together. During the lunch, we will have a special sharing session about the future vision of Westside.
