Announcements - December 24, 2017


  • We have raised a total of $2,477 from all the charity events we hosted this year. All proceeds received will be equally donated to Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society and Union Gospel Mission. Thank you for the generosity of all brothers, sisters and friends. 
  • There are still 2 vacancies in 2018-2020 deacon board. The nomination committee had discussed and agreed to re-open the election process. The timeline is as follow: 
    • Dec 3 Nomination commences 
    • Dec 31 Nomination closes 
    • Jan 7 Publication of final deaconship candidate list 
    • Jan 21 Deaconship election

Summary of December 2017 Deacon Board Meeting


  • Annual General Meeting will be held on January 28, 2018 at 1:00pm. Agenda is as follow: 
    1. Pastoral’s report 
    2. Deacon’s report 
    3. Present and accept 2017 financial report. 
    4. Present and approve 2018 budget. 
    5. Approve 2018 nomination committee. 
    6. Celebrate “mortgage-free” ceremony. 
    7. Any Other Business. 
  • The main hall lightings will be gradually replaced with LED lights. 
  • Due to the cleanliness of the church has been improved after changing to a new janitorial company, the fall cleaning will be cancelled this year.

Announcements - December 10, 2017


  • The monthly bulletin has been posted on the bulletin board. Please check it out for important information. There were 126 members casted their votes during deacon election on November 26. Benjamin Mak (119 agreed, 1 disagreed, 4 abstained, 2 invalid ballots), has been elected as 2018–2020 deacon. 
  • One of the deacon nominees has withdrawn from the election just a few days before the election. Therefore, there are still 2 vacancies in 2018-2020 deacon board. The nomination committee had discussed and agreed to re-open the election process. The timeline is as follow:

    • Dec 31 Nomination closes 
    • Jan 7 Publication of final deaconship candidate list

  • Lost and found items in the kitchen will be donated for the clothing drive fundraiser event. Please claim your lost items after worship service today. 
  • A special Christmas meditation retreat will be held today at the main hall between 2:00pm and 4:00pm. The material written will be in English. But the verbal instruction will be in Cantonese. The topic is “We Have Come to Worship Him”. The details and sign-up sheet have been posted on the bulletin board. 
  • Christmas Charity dinner will be held on December 17, 2017 at 6:00pm (Coordinators: Peter Cheung, Deacons Godfrey Leung and Jenny Tse). Net proceeds will be equally donated to Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society and Union Gospel Mission.
  • DONATIONS WANTED! Gifts to be sold at the Christmas Charity Auction are now being collected. We are accepting: new items of value; unique and valuable vintage items; and unused and non-expired gift certificates, gift cards, or gift vouchers (e.g. Groupons). Announcements - November 26, 2017


  • The deaconship election will be held today. Polling station has been set up to collect the ballots from members. The opening hours of the polling station are as follow: 9:30am – 10am; the half an hour right after CM worship service and right after EM worship service until 1:30pm. Members are encouraged to vote. Note: Due to health issue, Maria Wan has already withdrawn from the election. The nomination committee will discuss about the actions needed to be followed.
  • During the collection week for Operation Christmas Child the church has collected 5474 shoe box gifts. Out of which, Westside brothers and sisters have donated 90 gifts. The shoe box gifts have already transported to Calgary for inspection and sorting. Thank you Felix Loo for coordinating the project and brothers and sisters who helped to pack the cartons and load the trailer. 
  • Lost and found items in the kitchen will be donated for the clothing drive fundraiser event. Please claim your lost items before December 10.

  • Christmas Celebration events: Clothing drive (coordinator: Maggie Leung) Collection dates on December 3 and December 10. Christmas Charity Dinner (coordinator: Deacon Godfrey Leung, Deacon Jenny Tse and Peter Cheung) will be on December 17. Dinner tickets are $15 per adult and $8 per child age 4-10. Announcements - November 5, 2017


  • Mr. Shum Chi Ming, Shera’s father, has passed away on October 17. Please remember his family in your prayer. Mr. Shum’s funeral service will be on November 7, 10:00am at Forest Lawn Chapel. 
  • Please enter the main hall as soon as the Chinese service is over. Also do leave the seats in the foyer for the Chinese congregation to have fellowship with one another. 
  • Please move your car from downstairs parking lot 30 minutes after the worship service. 
  • Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes are ready for pick up at the main entrance. Internal collection day will be on November 19. Please contact Felix Loo for any enquiry. Deacon board meeting will be held today at 2:00pm at Room A. 
  • A breakfast fundraiser event, “Breakfast Together”, will be held on November 12 between 8:45am – 9:30am. Fundraising for Rev. John Loh of Gospel Operation International, supporting his disaster relief work in Mexico City clothings and other resources to children living in poverty.

Summary of September 2017 Deacon Board Meeting


  • CM Hospitality team training will be held on September 17. 
  • There will be a breakfast fundraiser event on 3 Sunday mornings before the CM worship services. The net proceeds will be donated to charitable organizations. Details are to be announced. 
  • Due to low attendance, Table Tennis individual class and H2 Homework Hours will be cancelled. 
  • Since Vancouver Coastal Health did not approve for a daycare facility downstairs, and the church is not ready to lobby to city councillors, the Mayor, the MLA and the MP at this point, therefore, the board has agreed to apply for development permit for the downstairs space as Artist Studio, as recommended by the architect. 
  • The CM newcomers’ luncheon will be held on October 8 at 1pm. The church will change the janitorial service company effective October this year. 
  • Couples Festival organized by the City of David Cultural Centre will be held on October 29. There will be renewal of wedding vows for couples who were non-Christians when they married. For those who are interested to join the event, please contact the pastoral staff. 
  • Pastor Alan will take his study leave between September 25 to October 3 and his annual leave between March 16 to March 29, 2018.

Summary of August 2017 Deacon Board Meeting


  • The alarm contacts will be changed as follow effective September 1, 2017: 1) Pastor Alan Yu, 2) Deacon Samson Chan and 3) Deacon Godfrey Leung. Please contact the person according to the above order should the alarm is triggered. The alarm code will be changed. 
  • All non-ministry related events will be considered private functions, and requests for using the church facility will be processed as regular rental. 
  • Small groups leaders will need to notify the church office as soon as possible if their small groups are not meeting at the church. 
  • The newcomers’ luncheon for CM will be postponed to October, 2017. 
  • The Chronic disease self-management course will be held in September, 2017. 
  • Pastor Gladys will take a vacation from September 7 to 15. Pastor Anders will take a vacation from September 8 to 15.

Summary of July 2017 Deacon Board Meeting


  • Su Juan Chen has passed away on June 23, 2017, and her Committal Service was held on June 29. She was baptized by Pastor Anders at a hospice on June 22 and became a member of Westside. 
  • A newcomers’ luncheon for Chinese Ministry will be held in September 2017. All newcomers are welcome to join. 
  • The fire drill on June 25 at CM worship took 2 minutes 17 seconds to evacuate the congregation.
  • Semi-annual Congregational Meeting will be held on July 30 at 1 pm. Agenda is as follow: 
    1. Semi-annual financial report of 2017. 
    2. Report the progress of Building Redevelopment project. 
    3. Approve Justin Chen to replace Peter Cheung as one of the deacon representatives of the nomination committee. 
  • The church will donate $100 to support Mission Fest 2018 Annual Conference.

Summary of June 2017 Deacon Board Meeting


  • Based on the pastoral staff’s recommendation, the deacon board has accepted Peter Cheung as pastoral intern effective September 2017. The practicum will be 10 hours per week. The supervisor will be Pastor Gladys. 
  • Deacon Peter Cheung has to be off the duty as Deacon effective September 2017. The board has decided no replacement for Peter at this time. His duties will be shared among the existing board members until the end of this year. 
  • dLite will go on a field trip to Seattle in August 2017. All participants must purchase travel insurance and the minors will need to submit a signed consent forms from their guardians. 
  • In order to minimize administrative workload, AWANA 2017-18 will not offer early bird rate. The registration fee will be $40 for all. 
  • The remaining gifts, aluminum chopsticks, from the 25th Anniversary banquet will be saved for future use at the right occasion. 
  • Pastor Alan will take his annual leave from June 4 to 9.

Summary of March 2017 Deacon Board Meeting


  • A new offering category called “Building Redevelopment Fund” (BR Fund) will be created with immediate effect. This fund is designated for any building redevelopment project. 
  • Policies for congregational loan repayment are listed as follow (Apply to new loans only): 
    • Uniform interest rate for congregational loan or 0% is allowed 
    • Interest loan rate should be based on CBWC Foundation deposit rate 
    • Loan is based on first-lend-first serve basis 
    • Borrowing term minimum 30 days 
    • Both WBC and lender can request cancellation of the agreement 7 days in advance. 
    • Loan will repay according to the date of the agreement signed 
    • The board reserves the right to accept or reject a loan 
  • The church will not issue donation receipt for all loans that offered 0% loan interest rate. 
  • For safety reason, the main entrance will be locked up during weekday nights’ gatherings including small groups meetings. Members will need to call their leaders for entry. 
  • GZone coach Kelly Lo will be replaced by Clemmie Cheung effective September 2017. 
  • Children program will be provided during EM worship service whenever necessary. The program will be led by Mabel Cheung effective May 2017.

  • The church will host a 25th Anniversary banquet at Fortune House Seafood Restaurant on May 7, 2017. Tickets for adults is $39 each, for kids ages 4-10 is $19 each and for kids ages 3 and under is free. 
  • Due to liability and security concerns, all church key holders please be reminded of the following: 
    1. Your church key is issued for a specific ministry purpose (such as small group gathering or praise team practice. Any key holder is not supposed to access and use the church building using his/her key for other purposes (including ministry-related and personal purposes) without informing the church office at least 48 hours ahead and receiving prior approval. 
    2. Any party less than 3 people cannot stay alone inside the church building after office hours. 
    3. The church building should be vacated by 11:00pm except when pre-authorized by the Deacon Board.

  • In remembrance of our Lord Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins, Holy Communion will be held today. If you have openly declared your faith and commitment to Jesus Christ through baptism, you are invited to prepare your heart and partake in the Holy Communion with us. 
  • Deacon board meeting will be held at 2:00pm today at room A.

  • The signing officers of 2017 are Deacon Jenny Tse and Deacon Tsz-Lam Mak. 
  • 2017 alarm contacts are 1) Deacon Peter Cheung, 2) Deacon Godfrey Leung and 3) Pastor Alan Yu. Please contact the person according to the above order should the alarm is triggered. The alarm code will be changed. 
  • The church 25th Anniversary celebration will be held on May 7, 2017. Details are to be announced. 
  • Terminated members who have never transferred their membership to another church can apply for reinstating their membership. However, they must retake WBC101 and to be interviewed by the pastoral staff about their faith.
