Announcements - July 31, 2016


  • Church prayer meetings are held every Sunday at 10:30am at the office. All are encouraged and welcome to attend. 
  • Worship duties list is posted on the church website. Please contact Deacon Peter, Deacon Justin or the church secretary if you are not available for the duties. Please do not make changes on your own. 
  • For those who are new to Westside and if you have not filled out a guest record form, please get one from our ushers. Also contact Pastor Gladys or one of our SG leaders if you want to know more about us or join our small groups. 
  • If you want to use the church facility, please call the church office to make the reservation. This also includes those who want to leave their cars in the church parking lot during weekdays. Please move your car to the upper parking lot after the worship service because we will lock up the downstairs garage door 30 minutes after our gatherings. 
  • The Children Summer Camp is open for registration now. The event is from July 4 to August 26. For registration, please contact the children summer camp coordinator Gigi Li as soon as possible. 
  • Meditation retreat will be held on August 14 between 2pm and 4pm. Details and sign-up sheet have been posted on the bulletin board. 
  • The name homework fellowship has been changed to Homework hour. It will re-start again in September. If you are interested to know more or to help out in this ministry, please contact Pastor Gladys or Deacon Justin. 
  • The church will adopt the name “Westside Community Centre” to promote all the community activities. If you want to know more about the programs of Westside community center, please refer to the church blog at www.westsidebaptist.ca for more details. Also do invite appropriate friends and relatives to attend. Do continue to remember this ministry in your prayers. 
  • 2017-2019 Deaconship Election 
    • Existing deacons are Keddy Au Yeung, Samson Chan, Justin Chen, Peter Cheung, Godfrey Leung, Lily Liu and Tsz-Lam Mak. 
    • Keddy Au Yeung (1st term) deaconship will be ended on December 31, 2016. Therefore, one of the deaconship candidates will be elected to replace the position in 2017. 
    • Nomination Committee: 
      • Deacon Rep: Peter Cheung, Lily Liu, Tsz-Lam Mak 
      • Congregation Rep: Jonathan Chan, Jenny Tse, Lauren Wong 
    • Criteria and procedure for deacon election has been posted on the bulletin board. The application forms are available through the church office.

Summary of July 2016 Deacon Board Meeting


  • CitRUs serving roles will have the following changes: First Look directors – Joanna Ng and Doris Lee, 252 Junior director– Grace Ng and Betty Lee, 252basics director – Daisy Liu. 252 Junior will begin in August and the church will purchase children furniture for the new classroom. 
  • There is further amendment on the by-law 6.1.3
    • 6.1.3 Each Pastor shall be an ex-officio, non-voting member with veto power (except in matters pertaining to the pastors themselves) of all Church bodies and committees where appropriate to their job description. 
  • During the summer when there is no AWANA, Friday night’s small group (dLite and Parenting) will take turn to reset chairs in the main hall for the Sunday worship services. 
  • The church will adopt the name “Westside Community Centre” to promote all the community activities. Two new courses will be launched in September are: Career Skills for adults and Drama for career development. 
  • The church has donated the old sound board to one of the CBWC churches.

    5. Any other business.

  • In remembrance of our Lord Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins, Holy Communion will be held today. If you have openly declared your faith and commitment to Jesus Christ through baptism, you are invited to prepare your heart and partake in the Holy Communion with us. 
  • Deacon board meeting will be held today at 2:30pm at room A.

  • We have uploaded all 6 of the prayer walking guides to the church website and encourage you to continue prayer walking in our neighborhood by using these guides. Make it a habit that you do regularly or may encourage your small group to go together, especially when the weather is nice.
