Announcements - November 29, 2015


  • Church prayer meetings are held every Sunday at 10:30am at the office. All are encouraged and welcome to attend. 
  • Worship duties list is posted on the church website. Please contact Deacon Peter, Deacon Justin or the church secretary if you are not available for the duties. Please do not make changes on your own. Try to use offering envelopes for your tithe and offering. If you have forgotten your offering number, please contact the church office. 
  • Today is 2016-2018 Deacon election. Polling station has been set up to collect the ballots from members. The opening hours of the polling station are as follow: 9:30am – 10am; the half an hour right after CM worship service and right after EM worship service until 1:30pm. Members are encouraged to vote. 
  • Operation Christmas Child national collection week has received 4492 shoe box gifts. Thank you brothers and sisters who helped to packed the cartons and loaded them into the trailer.
  • For those who are new to Westside and if you have not filled out a guest record form, please get one from our ushers. Also contact Pastor Gladys or one of our SG leaders if you want to know more about us or join our small groups. 
  • Join GZone X for their first ever Scavenger Hunt downtown! As a team, you will be given a series of challenges to solve in order to get your next clue to find your checkpoint. Meet at church at 2 PM and the event starts at Vancouver City Center Canada Line station at 2:30 PM. Join us for dinner afterwards at Old Spaghetti Factory at Gastown. Sign up via Facebook event. Max capacity at 30 people - priority will be given to GZone X members - so sign up quickly!" 
  • Christmas Charity events are as follow: 
    1. Clothing drive (coordinator: Maggie Leung) will be on December 6 – 13. Filled up standard (26” x 36”) garbage bag of clothing can be dropped off at Room A. 
    2. Christmas Charity Dinner (coordinator: Deacon Keddy Au Yeung and Samson Chan) will be on December 20. Dinner tickets are $15 per adult and $8 per child age 4-10. Tickets are now available with small group leaders or deacon Peter Cheung. Tickets sale deadline is December 13, 2015. 
    3. DONATIONS WANTED! Gifts to be sold at the Christmas Charity Auction are now being collected. We are accepting: new items of value; unique and valuable vintage items; and unused and non-expired gift certificates, gift cards, or gift vouchers (e.g. Groupons). Items should be new or in excellent condition. Please contact Pastor Alan for details before December 13. Please note that the Church reserves the right to refuse any donations, and unsold gifts will be returned to donors. Thank you for your support! 
  • All proceeds received from the above event will be donated to Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) in aiding the Syrian refugees, and the funds submitted to CBM prior to December 31 will be matched by the Canadian Government. 
  • The church will sing Christmas carols at the Marine Gateway Mall on December 20 between 2pm and 4pm. Members of WBC who are interested to join singing, please contact Pastor Alan. Congregation can also invite friends and relatives to enjoy the singing. 
  • Christmas décors will be moved from the foyer to the main hall today after worship service. For those who can help out please contact Deacon Keddy Au Yeung. 
  • Lost and found items in the kitchen will be donated for the clothing drive fundraiser event. Please claim your lost item before December 13.

Summary of November 2015 Deacon board meeting


  • Volunteers of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards program are Kenald Yu (coordinator), Carson Lai, Jodie Ng, and Carbo Ngai. Carlos Liu will become occasional helper and Daisy Liu will serve in another ministry instead. The registration fee has been amended to $30 per year per participant. 
  • All shoebox gifts will send to the Calgary processing centre on November 28. 
  • The church secretary will be on vacation between November 15 and November 22, 2015. 
  • All funds collected from this year’s Christmas charity events (including clothing drive, surplus from Christmas Charity Dinner, charity auction and other fundraiser events during Christmas dinner) will be donated to Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) in aiding the Syrian refugees, and the funds submitted to CBM prior to December 31 will be matched by the Canadian Government. 
  • 2015 annual children ministry training should have been completed by this time. Volunteers may be disqualified from serving in Children ministries if they do not complete the training by the end of this year. 
  • Helen Yung’s membership has been reactivated. Betty Cheung, Kellie Chiu, Justin Ng and Polly Yu’s memberships have been deactivated. 
  • The annual general meeting will be held on January 24, 2016.

  • The monthly bulletin has been posted on the bulletin board in the church foyer. Please check for important church updates. 
  • Operation Christmas Child filled shoebox gifts will be collected today.
  • Thanks to brothers and sisters who participated in the fall clean-up last Sunday and today. Please continue in this spirit of love and care to our church family on a regular basis by keeping it clean. 
  • WBC301 will start at 1:30pm today due to the fall clean up arrangement. 
  • The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program is started as a bridge to reach out to the community. It is suitable for teens and youth ages 14 - 19. Please invite youths who fall in this age group to attend and get more information about the program. If you are interested to know more about this program or in helping out, please contact the coordinator, Kenald Yu or the co-leader, Carson Lai. Also please pray for God’s guidance in the development of this new ministry.
  • There will be a special outdoor activity ‘scavenger hunt’ on the afternoon of Dec. 6 co-ordinated by DEA volunteers. Brothers and sisters are invited to join. For further details contact Kenald, Carson, Jodie or Carbo.

  • Worship duties list is posted on the church website. Please contact Deacon Peter, Deacon Justin or the church secretary if you are not available for the duties. Please do not make changes on your own.  
  • Try to use offering envelopes for your tithe and offering. If you have forgotten your offering number, please contact the church office.
  • Operation Christmas Child empty shoe boxes can be picked up now and please take note of the followings: 
    1. if you take one of the folded shoeboxes on stage, it comes with an English brochure inside the box. 
    2. There are unfolded shoeboxes on the table at the back of the hall, please take a brochure as well. 
    3. you can also use your own box - suggested is the transparent plastic shoebox so that the child receiving it can re-use it (it can buy from Walmart, London Drug, JYSK etc) 
    4. new this year: 1) do not put candy of any kind in the shoebox; 2) there are 2 sets of 'boy/girl' labels in the English brochure, you may only need one brochure for multiple boxes 
    5. please bring back the gift-filled shoebox on November 15 
  • WBC301 will resume classes today at 1:00pm.This course is for baptized members who want to find out their spiritual gifts and a place of ministry at Westside. For those who are new to Westside and if you have not filled out a guest record form, please get one from our ushers. Also contact Pastor Gladys or one of our SG leaders if you want to know more about us or join our small groups.

  • In remembrance of our Lord Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins, Holy Communion will be held today. If you have openly declared your faith and commitment to Jesus Christ through baptism, you are invited to prepare your heart and partake in the Holy Communion with us.
