Summary of June 2013 Deacon Board Meeting

• The new registration fee for Awana has been amended as follow: Administration fee: $35 or $25 for early bird registration. Uniform and handbooks will be charged separately.
• Deacons Felix Loo, Justin Chen, Tsz-Lam Mak and the pastoral staff have formed a committee in planning for the redevelopment of the facility downstairs. The goal is to have a proposal drafted within a year.
• Block party will be held on July 1 subject to the approval of the heritage fund from the government.
• Church picnic for adult is $12 per person; ages 4-10 is $6 (BBQ lunch included); ages 3 and below is free.
• Hospitality team training for the Chinese congregation will be held on July 7 right after worship service.
• Amendments of the Administrative handbook 
• Voting in the Deacon Board (p.11)

• A resolution must be passed by at least 75% 67% of the board members, regardless of the number of the board members present during the voting procedure. 67% of the current year’s board members must be present to form a quorum for the monthly board meeting.
• Previous year’s deacons must be present at the January meeting in order to pass the minutes of December meeting of the previous year.

• Pastors Gladys and Anders will take their annual leave from July 17 – July 31, 2013.

• Don’t go home hungry! Join us for the community meal after Saturday evening worship services. Fees are $6 per person. Please contact Joyce or Jackson to pre-order by Thursday each week.
• Youth Gospel Camp fundraiser event -- YARD SALE -- will be held on June 15 (Saturday) between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. Donations of resalable items are greatly appreciated and will be collected today in Room G. Please note that prices will be set by the committee, and unsold items will NOT be returned to the donors. For donations of large or heavy items, please contact Joseph Ng, Jason Kwok or the office prior to dropping them off at the church. The committee reserves the right to decline donations of items deemed unsalable. Thanks for your support!
• July 1 (1:00pm – 4:00pm) – Come and celebrate Canada Day with us at Westside’s Annual Block Party! It’s a day of family-friendly fun and excitement with face painting, a bouncy castle, cotton candy, refreshments, carnival games, and much more!
• The WBC Annual Church picnic will be held on August 5 at Belcarra Regional Park between 10am – 4pm. Tickets are now available with Deacon Peter Cheung. $12 per adult; $6 per child of ages 4-10; free for children age 3 and under.
• The Children Summer Camp at Westside Baptist Church is now open for registration! The camp will be from July 1st to August 23rd, 2013, Monday to Friday from 9:30am to 3:30pm. We are very excited to welcome children from preschool to grade 3 to join us for songs, story time, arts & crafts, games, outdoor activities, playground time, cooking lessons, special shows, field trips, and so much more! Children can sign up on a weekly basis. The fee is $125/week. 20% off for the second sibling registering together! • The Youth Gospel Camp will be held on August 30 - September 2 at Alexandra Neighbourhood House. Those aged 16 to 25 are welcome to join. The car wash fundraiser on April 28, 2013 raised $985. A huge thank you all who made donations and participated in the event!

• Mission team is planning for a mission trip to China in November and December. For those who are interested, please contact Deacon Felix Loo.
• Early Bird registration is now open for AWANA in September 2013 - June 2014. The registration fee for the whole season is $35, and does not include handbook and uniform. If you register on or before June 22, 2013, you will enjoy an Early Bird discount of $10. For registration and details, please contact Pastor Alan Yu.

Summary of May 2013 Deacon Board Meeting

• The church has offered Grace Ng a position as the summer program coordinator, subject to the approval of government funding. Grace Ng was selected out of 3 candidates.
• Rules and regulations concerning weddings and memorial services in the administrative handbook have been amended. An extract of the amendments is posted on the bulletin board for viewing.
• The Chinese ministry will launch a campaign called “The Emotionally Healthy Spiritual Church” in June and July. The campaign will include sermon teaching on Sunday mornings and combined small group events on Friday nights.
• In lieu of a Father’s Day gift this year, we will be making a donation on behalf of Westside’s fathers to one of the following charitable organizations: 1) Big Brothers; 2) The Vancouver Food Bank or 3) The Prostate Cancer Foundation of BC. Fathers can cast their votes to choose their preferred charity during the worship services on June 15 or 16.
• The English ministry will hold a coffee house on the evening of Friday, July 12. Details are to be confirmed.
• The English worship service on August 31 will be cancelled due to most of the congregation attending the Youth Gospel Camp that weekend. Therefore, a joint worship service will be held on Sunday, September 1.
